CONCERT REVIEW: BLINK 182 AT TD GARDEN

As Taylor Swift took to the stage at Gillette Stadium for her third of three sold-out nights, there was another ticket in town that was seemingly just as hard to get – Blink 182. Reunited at Coachella for the first time and now on a full tour, the hype didn’t disappoint.

As Taylor Swift took to the stage at Gillette Stadium for her third of three sold-out nights, there was another ticket in town that was seemingly just as hard to get – Blink 182. Reunited at Coachella for the first time and now on a full tour, the hype didn’t disappoint. They may have grown up somewhat, but their humor still toes the line perfectly and they may even sound better than before.

The chemistry between the three was as sharp as ever with humor like Tom joking about having sex, in a “revolutionary style” since he was in Boston. Barker’s drumming is still simply astounding to watch, especially as his riser rises on cables up above the stage and hangs in the air. Tom’s guitar stance hasn’t changed and “where are you” is just as nasally as ever.

The band tore through a catalog of hits, including “Anthem Part Two,” “The Rock Show”, “Feeling This,” “First Date,” and, of course, “What’s My Age Again?” and “All The Small Things.” Fans, including former Mass governor Charlie Baker in the pit, sang along to every word, even the Matt Skiba era tunes.

Blink 182 didn’t just meet the hype of the reunion, it surpassed it. There was an energy and a joy that was radiating throughout the room. Just like the Taylor Swift show about 50 miles away, it was a celebration of a band that the audience came of age with and the tour they waited years for.
